About Paperuna

Useful document tools without handing over your documents.

Paperuna is an independent collection of free PDF and document utilities created by Aaron McGuire. It is built around a simple principle: routine document work should not require installing software, creating an account or unnecessarily uploading private files.

Why Paperuna exists

Combining a contract, removing an unwanted page or making a scan searchable should be straightforward. Many online document services place limits, accounts and server uploads between the user and a small task. Paperuna aims to offer a clearer alternative: open a tool, choose a file, complete the work and download the result.

The service is intended for everyday users rather than document specialists. Each tool explains what it changes, identifies meaningful limitations and keeps the workflow focused.

What browser-side processing means

When you choose a supported document, Paperuna’s processing code reads it locally in your browser. The document contents are not uploaded to Paperuna for processing, and Paperuna does not maintain a server-side document history.

The website itself, consented analytics and advertising still use normal internet services. Those services are kept separate from document contents and filenames. Closing or refreshing the workspace normally clears its temporary in-browser state.

Honest limitations matter

Browser processing depends on the memory and performance of your device. Very large scans, complex Office files and specialist PDF features may take longer or produce a simplified result. Conversion cannot always reproduce proprietary layouts perfectly, OCR can misread text, and a visible electronic signature is not a certificate-based digital signature.

Paperuna is provided free of charge and on an “as is” basis. Users remain responsible for reviewing downloaded results and deciding whether a tool is appropriate for legal, financial, medical, regulatory or other important work. An untouched original should always be retained.

Free to use

Core tools do not require payment or account registration. Advertising helps cover hosting and continued development.

Growing carefully

New capabilities are introduced incrementally so privacy, accessibility and maintainability remain part of the product.
