Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. Paperuna’s available document tools run locally in your browser, including editing, OCR, redaction, page organisation, Office conversions and PDF compression. Your document contents stay on your device.
Does Paperuna store my documents or extracted data?
No. Paperuna does not store document contents, filenames, OCR text, extracted text or generated files. Files are held temporarily in your browser while you use a tool and are cleared when you refresh, close the page or start over.
Why does Paperuna show advertising?
Advertising helps pay for hosting and continued development so the document tools can remain free without requiring accounts or subscriptions. Optional advertising technology only loads after consent, and document contents are never used for ad targeting.
Do I need an account or paid plan?
No. The current tools can be used without creating an account, installing software or subscribing to a paid plan.
Can Paperuna work with scanned documents?
Yes. OCR PDF can recognise text in scanned pages and create a searchable PDF. Results depend on scan quality, contrast, rotation and language, so important names, dates and figures should always be checked.
Does redaction permanently remove information?
Paperuna creates a flattened, sanitised PDF so content beneath applied redaction areas is not merely covered by an editable shape. You should still review the downloaded result carefully before sharing it.
Will conversions preserve the original layout?
Page-based exports such as PDF to PNG or PowerPoint retain the visual appearance closely. Editable Word and Excel exports reconstruct content from PDF text, so complex columns, tables, fonts or merged cells may need adjustment.
What are the file limits?
The default anonymous limits are 50 MB per file, up to 20 files where a tool supports multiple uploads, and 100 MB in total. Some tools may apply a lower practical limit depending on your device and the document complexity.
What happens if I leave a tool before finishing?
Files and unfinished changes held in your browser are cleared when you leave or refresh the page. Paperuna warns you before navigating away from a workflow that has changes in progress.
